Alex Walker’s Serian “The Original”
Serian was the first of Alex’s camps, and it perfectly captures the essence of its name: meaning ‘peaceful, calm, serene’ in the Maasai language, it was designed to be a retreat from the bustle of contemporary life, and a chance to experience untamed Africa in traditional tented splendour.

It lies in the private Mara North Conservancy, and the beauty of this location is that only 10 other camps have access to it – so the feeling of having your own personal piece of Africa is a luxury that Serian Camp has in spades.

The thatched mess area has a stunning view over the Mara River and the Siria escarpment and is the perfect spot to share a sundowner and stories of the dwindling day.

Join Adrian and Roisin by the fireside and watch as the stars take over the sky. Comfy furniture, smooth wooden decks and an indoor fireplace give a warm feeling of home away from home – and the idea is to treat it like one: sit back, put up your feet and succumb to the chilled ambiance and good company that constitutes Serian’s nightlife.

Serian consists of four vast marquees perched on beautiful hardwood decking. Each is unique in its own way but all are furnished with elegant simplicity, complemented by countless thoughtful little personal touches. The beautiful bush bathrooms offer views over the river valley as you soak in your tub, and this openness simulates the delicious sensation of being outdoors. Airy and spacious, they include a shower as well as an enormous bath, twin basins, and a flushing toilet.

Angama Mara
Angama is inspired by the Swahili word for ‘suspended in mid-air’. Located high above the floor of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, Angama Mara is a remarkable safari lodge overlooking Kenya’s world famous Maasai Mara. Here guests will find a lodge where everything is as it ought to be: two intimate camps of just fifteen Tented Suites each, a private airfield and access to the Mara below, tailor-made safari days, and a famously warm Kenyan welcome.

The lodge’s remarkable setting overlooks what many safari travellers deem the finest game reserve on the continent, Kenya’s Maasai Mara. Angama Mara’s Tented Suites stretch out over two kopjes on the edge of the escarpment. The third kopje is immediately recognisable as the site where many of the most memorable scenes from Out of Africa were filmed.

The Tented Suites have been designed for guests’ comfort and are reminiscent of a classical African safari, each with a view as lovely as the next. Highly polished parquet floors, distinctive splashes of Maasai red, a handsome drinks cabinet, vanity with double basins, separate w/c, writing desk with ample charging points, WiFi, Africology amenities, a collection of East African books, a beautiful John Vogel woven screen and a butler’s lobby allowing for the discreet delivery of early morning tea and coffee, all add to the comfort and delight of guests in their luxury tents.

Offbeat Mara Camp
Offbeat Mara is a small, traditional safari camp, situated within the 74,000 acre Mara North Conservancy (MNC). The area is full of wildlife yet far from any other camp or lodge. MNC is only open to member camps and has a strict policy on game viewing etiquette. For these reasons guests at Offbeat Mara get a wholly exclusive experience that is otherwise becoming hard to find.

The heart of the camp is the main ‘mess’ tent with its bar, dining area, sitting room, fireplace, and forest deck. All the accommodation tents are en-suite with flush loos and traditional hot safari showers.

Seven private tents are each en-suite with flush loos and traditional hot safari showers. Each tent has its own veranda and is carefully positioned to offer wonderful views as well as privacy.

Ol Seki Hemingways Mara
Set on a rocky promontory overlooking the Isupukiai River Valley, Ol Seki Hemingways Mara is a private luxury tented camp, which enjoys panoramic views across a wilderness teeming with game on the Naboisho Conservancy, north of the Mara Reserve. The area provides a rare opportunity to enjoy wildlife viewing in a pristine setting away from mass tourism. Ol Seki guides, who know every inch of the bush, lead guests throughout the Conservancy and onto the Mara plains to experience once-in-a-lifetime encounters with Kenya’s extraordinary wildlife.

Encompassing nine beautifully designed traditional safari tents, Ol Seki Hemingways Mara is an intimate oasis nestled amongst Cordia and Acacia trees, with views across the valley. Each spacious tent features a private deck, enabling guests to view animals and birds in their natural habitat, or simply enjoy the stunning sunsets, from the comfort of their tents.

The main area of camp comprises an extra large dining room and lounge where guests can relax in between game drives in comfortable armchairs and sofas with a gin and tonic overlooking a nearby watering hall. The baraza seating area offers a comfortable corner to enjoy a mid morning cappuccino. Other than private dining, all meals are served in the dining area. Sitting below the lounge and dining tent is the infinity swimming pool and adjacent sunset deck where guests can relax during the day and where we usually gather together in the early evening before supper.

Every tent sits on a private vantage point up on the rocky escarpment offering a 270-degree view of the bush from the large, comfortable beds. There are eight double/twin guest tents and, following a major refurbishment, the tents now feature glass sliding doors opening onto a large private terrace as well as indoor and outdoor showers and a large bath tub with views out onto the plains. The lobby area into the tent features a small mini bar as well as a pop hatch for early morning tea and coffee orders.

Food throughout the safari is of a very high quality and you can expect 3 course, candle lit dinners every evening, with plenty of good wine.
