We are delighted to be adding something very special to our Mongolia collection for 2027.
The Luxury Mongolia Adventure takes everything we love about riding in Mongolia – huge open landscapes, perfect fast gallops on strong, sturdy local horses, nomadic culture and that incredible feeling of being somewhere completely wild – and combines it with a level of comfort rarely found in Mongolia.
Think African safari lodge, but Mongolian style.
At the heart of the trip is a beautiful mobile luxury yurt camp which moves with you between two completely different landscapes. First, the golden dunes, rocky mountains and green steppe of the Bayan Gobi, followed by the lush valleys and mountains of the Khangai and Orkhon Valley.
Your traditional yurt comes with a comfortable bed, cashmere blankets and your own private shower and toilet. There is a chef travelling with the camp, good coffee, wine with meals, sundowners and even Starlink Wi-Fi. Little touches include morning tea or coffee delivered to your yurt with warm towels and heat packs to warm your bed on chilly evenings.
The riding is every bit as special. You'll ride Mongolian horses alongside local nomadic horsemen, exploring dunes, open steppe, mountains and river valleys, as well as riding to ancient monasteries and through areas where nomadic families still move with their horses, yaks, sheep and goats.
And there is plenty more besides the riding. Meet a nomadic family, soak in hot springs, try Mongolian archery, learn to make traditional dishes, enjoy a private performance of Mongolian music and visit some of the country's most important historical and spiritual sites.
There is even a Mongolian queens' beauty ritual and the chance to dress in traditional royal costumes for a wonderfully over-the-top photo session before your final dinner on the steppe!
For riders who have always wanted to experience Mongolia but aren't quite sold on camping and sleeping bags, this is the answer.
It is wild Mongolia – just with a hot shower, a proper bed and a glass of wine waiting for you at the end of the day.
Horses and riding remain at the heart of this adventure.
You'll ride native Mongolian horses, that have been central to nomadic life here for centuries, accompanied by local nomadic riding guides.
The landscapes change enormously during the trip. In the Bayan Gobi you'll ride amongst golden dunes, green steppe, rivers and rocky cliffs, before moving into the Khangai where the scenery becomes greener and more mountainous, with rolling steppe, river valleys and herds of horses and yaks roaming freely.
The itinerary includes some long and varied rides, including riding to Erdene Khambiin Khiid Monastery, exploring the nomadic valleys of the Khangai and following ancient pilgrimage trails towards Tovkhon Monastery.
English saddles specially adapted to fit the Mongolian horses are used and come with comfortable seat savers – quite a luxury compared with the traditional Mongolian wooden saddle!
This is an active trip with some long days in the saddle and is best suited to confident, experienced riders who are comfortable riding in open countryside over varied terrain. That said, non-riders are very welcome with a dedicated guide on hand to take them on treks and excrsions whilst the riders are out on the horses.
Our Recommendations
You’ve travelled all the way to Mongolia, so it seems a shame to fly in and head straight out without seeing a little of Ulaanbaatar and its surroundings. We’d recommend adding an extra night or two before or after your ride.
While you’re there, make time for the enormous Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue, explore Ulaanbaatar itself and wander through the Winter Palace of the Bogd Khan and its gardens. For something completely different, head to the city’s famous Naran Tuul Market, often known as the Black Market, where you’ll find everything from traditional clothing and riding boots to household goods, antiques and souvenirs.
It’s a great way to see another side of Mongolia and makes a lovely addition to your time out on the steppe.

Arrival - group transfer from Ulaanbaatar Airport on arrival of Turkish Airlines flight TK236 (usually landing at 7.15am). You can book any flight landing before this.
If you are already in Ulananbaator, the meeting point is at Khubilai Hotel at 8.30am.
Departure - group transfer to Ulaanbaatar airport in time for Turkish Airlines flight TK237 usually taking off at 8.50am. You can book any flight departing after 8.50am. No individual transfers are available, you will need to take a taxi if you don't join the group transfer.

Riding & Itinerary
Day 1
Ulaanbaatar to the Bayan Gobi
Welcome to Mongolia! You'll be met by your English-speaking guide on arrival in Ulaanbaatar and set off by comfortable 4x4 towards Khogno Khan and the Bayan Gobi – the 'Rich Gobi'.
After lunch en route, you'll arrive at your first private yurt camp amongst the dunes. Settle into your luxury yurt, enjoy your first hot shower and spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring the surrounding dunes before dinner in the beautifully decorated dining tent.

Day 2
Riding the Bayan Gobi
Wake to tea or coffee and warm towels delivered to your yurt before breakfast and your first day with the horses.
Today you'll explore the extraordinary Bayan Gobi, where golden sand dunes meet green meadows, rivers, small lakes and rocky hills. Ride alongside the local nomadic horsemen and keep an eye out for the Bactrian camels that roam this region.
Return to camp for lunch before heading out again for more riding across this fascinating meeting point between desert and steppe.
After a hot shower back at camp, the evening brings a private performance from traditional Mongolian musicians before dinner under the stars.

Day 3
Dunes, Mountains & Monastery
Today the landscape changes again as you ride into a more mountainous area of dramatic rock formations and spectacular views.
Your destination is Erdene Khambiin Khiid, a small Buddhist monastery tucked into the cliffs at the foot of Mount Khögnö Khan. After lunch, continue higher into the mountains on horseback, looking back across the dunes, rivers and rocky landscape below.
Back at camp, those who fancy it can join the chef for a Mongolian cooking workshop before dinner.

Day 4
Karakorum & the Khangai Mountains
Time to swap camel country for yak country!
While the camp team dismantles the yurts ready to create your new home in the Khangai, you'll travel by 4x4 to Karakorum, the former capital of the Mongol Empire.
Visit the impressive Erdene Zuu Monastery and Karakorum Museum before lunch, then continue into the remote Khangai Mountains and your newly rebuilt luxury camp.
Once settled in, try your hand at traditional Mongolian archery before dinner and your first night surrounded by the rolling steppe and mountains of the Khangai.

Day 5
Nomadic Mongolia & Hot Springs
This is Mongolia as you imagine it – endless green steppe, rivers winding through the valleys, yurts dotted across the landscape and herds of horses and yaks roaming freely.
Ride through the Khangai valleys and meet a local nomadic family for a glimpse into a way of life that remains closely connected to the land and livestock.
After lunch, continue on horseback to natural hot springs, where your swimwear will be waiting and you can soak tired riding muscles in the warm pools.
Return to camp by 4x4, where the pampering continues with an optional Mongolian queens' beauty ritual using products inspired by local ingredients and nomadic traditions.

Day 6
Riding to Tovkhon Monastery
A final big day in the saddle takes you along ancient pilgrimage trails across the steppes and wild ridges of the Khangai towards Tovkhon Monastery.
Founded in the 17th century by Zanabazar, the monastery sits high on a sacred cliff and is one of Mongolia's important spiritual sites.
Return to camp in the late afternoon for a rather fun finale. Choose from colourful traditional Mongolian costumes, ceremonial armour, hats, jewellery and headdresses for a royal photo session using your own phone or camera.
Then settle in for a special final dinner on the steppe and one last night in your yurt.

Day 7
Return to Ulaanbaatar
Enjoy one last breakfast surrounded by the Mongolian landscape before saying goodbye to your camp and beginning the journey back to Ulaanbaatar.
Lunch is taken at a restaurant en route before arriving at your 4-star hotel later in the day.
There is time to make use of the hotel's swimming pool, sauna and gym before your final dinner and a comfortable night's sleep.

Departure
Breakfast at the hotel followed by your transfer to Ulaanbaatar Airport in time for your onward flight.
Please note - on selected departures the itinerary may operate in reverse, beginning in the Khangai Mountains and finishing in the Bayan Gobi. The final night will always be at the Khubilai Hotel, or equivalent, in Ulaanbaatar.

For six nights, your home is a beautiful mobile yurt camp, set first amongst the dunes of the Bayan Gobi and then moved to a secluded valley in the Khangai Mountains.
These aren't your average camping yurts. Each is richly decorated in traditional Mongolian style and shared between two guests, with comfortable beds, cashmere blankets, traditional furniture and your own private shower and toilet facilities.
The little extras make this camp particularly special. Wake to tea or coffee and warm towels delivered to your yurt, enjoy a hot shower after riding and settle down at night with a heat pack to warm your bed. There is even Starlink Wi-Fi.
Your final night is spent at the 4-star Khubilai Hotel, or equivalent, near Ulaanbaatar airport, where you'll have access to a swimming pool, sauna and gym.
Food is another step up from a traditional riding expedition. A dedicated chef travels with the camp, creating a mixture of Mongolian, Asian and international dishes.
At camp, water, soft drinks, fruit juice, premium tea and freshly made coffee from the bean-to-cup espresso machine are included, along with wine with meals and sundowners.
During the trip there is also the chance to get involved in a Mongolian cooking workshop and discover dishes such as buuz steamed dumplings, crispy khuushuur and tsuivan noodles. Vegetarian versions can be prepared.

The Destination
Mongolia is a vast, landlocked country in East Asia, bordered by Russia to the north and China to the south. It is one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world, known for its enormous open steppes, mountains and desert landscapes. Horses have played a central role in Mongolian life for centuries, and nomadic traditions remain an important part of the country’s culture today. Ulaanbaatar is the capital and largest city, while beyond it much of Mongolia remains wonderfully remote, with huge skies, wide-open landscapes and herding communities living much as generations before them have done.
