Kara Creek Ranch Wyoming
Overview
Located in the beautiful Black Hills of Wyoming, U.S.A, Monte Snook and his family offer a truly unique experience. This is an honest working cattle ranch where you can actively participate in daily ranch activities. It covers 30,000 acres of land where the family raise and run over 1,200 pairs and approximately 4000 yearlings. At the end of the year, they sell high-quality first calf heifers as well as bred heifers and heifer and steer calves.
The ranch is full of natural beauty and the cowboys and cowgirls will make you feel right at home with their warm hearted welcome. Here you are treated like part of the family and will leave a life-long friend. Almost 150 years and four generations ago, the Snook family homesteaded in Wyoming and began cattle ranching. And since then, a long-line of cowboys and cowgirls has been formed. Monte, the founder of Snook Ranches, from just a boy was a natural born cowboy spending the summer in cow camps and skipping school to take his horses out for a ride. Eventually Monte left his father’s ranch and started his own ranch. Throughout the years, Monte always kept his doors open and welcomed anyone who wanted to learn or experience the cowboy life. In 1990, Monte decided he wanted to share the cowboy lifestyle with the world and opened Kara Creek.
As a working ranch, the main activities are linked to the actual needs of the ranch and the cowboys' work days. Therefore you can expect to round-up cattle, drive them to summer grazing pastures and drive them to winter grazing pastures, participate in branding, learn how to repair and build fence and attend local rodeos.
Ranch activities revolve around real ranch activities and vary by season.
April – June: The main activities at the ranch during this time of year is branding all the baby calves that were born over the winter months – this old custom brings with it an opportunity to come together and celebrate the new season. After branding all the calves, you will drive the cattle out to summer pasture for grazing.
July – August: May involve some occasional cattle work counting the herds or moving them from one pasture to another. Generally there's less ranch work during this time and guests enjoy mainly trail rides.
September – October: After the cattle have grazed freely during the summer months, it’s time to round up the cattle and take them to be sold and move the remaining cattle to winter grazing pastures. This is a great time to visit the ranch if you enjoy riding horses daily and sorting cattle.

Accommodation & Meals
The accommodation is rustic and homely. Think cosy ranch style. At the end of a long day falling into a real bed does feel good. There are four rooms in the main ranch house. Two are doubles and two are twin rooms. These rooms share a bathroom. There are also five separate wooden cabins each with it’s own ensuite bathroom. Guests are invited to treat the ranch house as a home from home.
Meals are typical home made ranch food... Uncomplicated but hearty and plentiful. Expect pancakes, egs and bacon for breakfast. For lunch and dinner, think of barbecues, vegetable and meat bakes, oven roasted chicken, lasagne, mac and cheese, generally lots of meat but also vegetarian options. All meals are served buffet style in the main ranch house and eaten around large dining table family style. Sometimes on long working days with the cowboys, there's a picnic style sandwich station set up out in the nature and guests help themselves. Evenings are lively in the ranch saloon.
