SUMMARY OF THE TRIP top

Brand new ride for 2023 where you will have the opportunity to experience the green plains of the Orkhon Valley, riding with pack yaks in Naiman Nuur Park, an incredibly remote area and cross the dunes of the Bayan Goby Desert. This is the only horse riding adventure that combines these areas and an experience to remember for those looking for a truly off the beaten track trip. Combining riding through some of the most remote areas on Earth whilst discovering the incredible history and culture of Mongolia including riding with the nomadic herders and staying with nomadic families in their traditional guest yurts.

The beauty of Mongolia is the limitless, vast and intact nature, punctuated by white yurts and Buddhist temples. If you have no fear of rough tracks and wilderness, Mongolia is for you!
Due to the terrain and very low population density, the routes can be long and tiring with bumps along the way, however, this is all part of the adventure. This is a landscape barely touched by tourism (there are no hotels outside of Ulaanbataar).

THE RIDING top

Gobi Desert & Orkhon Valley: Horses – Local Mongolian horses, 13 – 14hh, very hardy, very strong and very fast.

Gobi Desert & Orkhon Valley: Level of Riding & Pace – Intermediate to advanced

Tack – Western style.

Weight Restriction – 15 stone / 210lbs / 100kg.

Gobi Desert & Orkhon Valley: Group Size – Maximum 10.

ACCOMMODATION top

The accommodation is varied with a nice balance between yurts and camping: 6 nights camping, 4 nights in a yurt with a nomadic family, 2 nights in 3 and 4* hotels in Ulaanbaatar.
Guest yurt accommodation is a unique opportunity to share and discover the traditional way of life of the nomadic herders in Mongolia.
2 or 3 guest-yurts are set close to the family’s yurt, surrounded by the free roaming horses, yacks, sheep and goats.
You will sleep in guest-yurts with 4 or 5 single beds, heated with a traditional stove.
Meals are served either in the family’s yurt or outside, weather permitting.
Your host will prepare traditional Mongolian dishes and it can be interesting to see how they cook with only the central stove of the yurt.
A shower tent is provided close to the yurts, water is heated on the stove & dry toilets are available.

Mongolia is one of the last countries where you can camp wherever you want. All the camping gear is carefully maintained and checked after each trip, and renewed as necessary. They have French Decathlon tents for 1 or 2 persons with self-inflating mattress which are  especially thick for comfort. A large tent hosts table and chairs for meals together. A “shower tent” is also provided. The shower water can be heated on demand on the campfire.

Horse Riding Holidays in the Altai Mountains are part of the Zara’s Planet collection of Horse Riding Holidays Mongolia.
