Our horse riding holidays are thoroughly researched – we consider all the elements that go towards making our horse riding holidays collection the best in the world. We check the quality of the horses, if they are fit for the job, well produced and looked after. We make sure the accommodation, whether it’s a five star hotel, a farmhouse or camping, is clean and comfortable, and offers a great night’s sleep. The food is all important too – we take the time to make sure we tell you if it’s cordon bleu, home cooked, or regional and locally sourced – above all it has to be delicious, plentiful and nourishing. Last but not least, we choose the horse riding holidays that have the best hosts, who are friendly, warm and welcoming.

It’s only when all these elements come together that we add a horse riding holiday into our hand-picked collection of horse riding holidays.

Riders will be greeted at 17:00 hrs. at the meeting point near Guanajuato city, at traditional Mexican ranch – Rancho Colomitos CLUB DEL CABALLO
Upon arrival at the Ranch. guests will have the opportunity to meet the rest of our staff and get to know about the journey’s details and explanation. All this will occur during the reception, with a delicious welcome cocktail on the terrace of the ranch.

After a delicious breakfast at the Ranch, horses are waiting for us, then after an appropriate allocation of horses to riders, we will start our adventure from Colomitos to Peñafiel, a ride along through rural communities in the area, until reaching the foothills of the Montecillo mountains, where we start to ascend from 1,900 m.a.s.l. towards the old Cardones hacienda at 2,236 m.a.s.l., crossing landscapes of changing nature with elements of the semi-desert and the majesty of the central mountain range.
We will have the opportunity to observe several ancient ruins of mines and haciendas over hundreds of years old, as Santo Niño, nestled in the mountains from the times of the Spanish colony. We will cross the “Cardo River” and we can, if we wish, swim in its natural retiree of filtered water coming from the sacred mountain spring water. A small natural pool in the middle of the desert.
A day of amazing landscapes with stunning natural scenarios that remind us, the western films of Clint Eastwood, Jhon Wayne & Gary Cooper. REAL MEXICO!!
Riding all the way up the mountains until we reach, the ancient remains of the Cardones Hacienda and its Lienzo Charro (Mexican horse Arena) at Peñafiel.
Our horses will remain there for the night, and we will be transferred to the hotel located in the heart of Guanajuato’s historic centre, having the chance to see “La Presa de la Olla” A beautiful and ancient dam, which is accessible through a beautiful passage built from the viceregal era.
Guanajuato, a colonial city with beautiful buildings, that contain the elements from the two main cultures that created the city, ~ indigenous and Hispanic~, and marking the source of our Mexican nation, conserves its architectural features and environment. Protected by its inhabitants and government, state and municipal, Guanajuato was declared by UNESCO as the “Historic Town of Guanajuato and Adjacent Mines” in December 1988.
Dinner will be taken right in the garden of the Union, where every night, regional music groups, like Mariachis, bands or trios delight walkers with “Rancheras” traditional era songs, in the dim light of the place which revokes us the past time and creates a magical atmosphere.

Day 3
After a delicious breakfast, we will be transferred to place where horses are, so we can start our adventure from the old silver mine towards the Village of Santa Rosa, located in the heart of the central highlands. At 2,850 meters height, this will be a beautiful day through the old royal road, used 500 years ago during the Spanish colonial times to transport minerals, mainly gold and silver.
Today, during our trip, we will pass by old gold and silver mines, as well as the beautiful rural communities Peñafiel, Monte San Nicolas, Peregrina, and Santa Rosa. We will have the chance to see, The Christ of the Cubilete, which is located on Cubilete Mountain, and it’s considered as the geographic centre of Mexico.

Day 6
This day we will have the wonderful fortune of going on horseback, one of the most important historical cities of Mexico, known as the “Cradle of Mexican Independence”, since his parish’s court witnessed the famous cry for freedom (Grito de Libertad), which was the initial call to take up arms against the colonial regime and the Spanish crown. It was initiated by Priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, at daybreak, on September 16th, 1810. We will make a brief tour on our horses, from the historic centre, visiting some of the most emblematic buildings from the war for independence of Mexico.
By the evening we will have the opportunity to visit the “Wine Museum”, enter to a “Real Mexican Cantina” or just walk around and visit stores with a great variety of local handicrafts, and later that day we will enjoy our Dinner in a typical and unique Mexican restaurant, located in the main garden. It is an old house dating back from the eighteenth century and known for serving delicious traditional dishes, lit by fireflies flitting through the gardens and the fresh scent flowers. We will enjoy the culinary arts of the area, mainly based on natural products, which by its simplicity excites the senses.

Day 7
In the morning, after enjoying a delicious breakfast accompanied by a typical Mexican coffee called “café de la olla,” we will continue our journey horseback riding from Dolores Hidalgo to Atotonilco through sandy roads and among cacti, offering a unique and picturesque experience. Departing from Dolores Hidalgo, renowned for its historical significance in the Mexican “War of Independence”, we will traverse sandy trails winding through the arid landscape. The terrain will be dotted with various species of cacti, creating a rugged yet captivating scenery.
The sandy roads will present a different challenge and pace for both the rider and the horse, requiring a steady and patient stride. The sound of hooves on the sand will mix with the occasional rustle of desert plants, creating a tranquil atmosphere. The landscape, characterized by the distinctive flora of the region, will provide a true sense of the Mexican countryside.
As we approach Atotonilco, famous for its Sanctuary “Jesus de Nazareno”, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the sandy paths will give way to more solid ground. The journey will not only be a physical exploration but also a cultural one, transitioning from the historical town of Dolores Hidalgo to the spiritual and artistic significance of Atotonilco. Overall, horseback riding through sandy roads and cactus-filled landscapes will offer a memorable equestrian adventure, blending nature, history, and the essence of rural Mexico.
This day, we will enjoy lunch at a picnic on the outskirts of the old chapel in the Barron community. Then, we will continue to Atotonilco, where we can admire the imposing walls of the 18th-century church with its living altarpiece, where religious practices still take place. This invaluable architectural treasure is known as the Sistine Chapel of Mexico and is composed of a nave, sacristy, and over 6 adjoining chapels, along with several dressing rooms. The place is adorned with murals, oil paintings, altars, and sculptures. This majestic sanctuary is declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 8
At 12:00 pm after breakfast and enjoying the pool and the magnificent facilities of our accommodation, it is the end of our services. This is the moment, that our incredible riding trip together comes to an end.
It is time to say goodbye and express gratitude to everyone for the moments we have shared on this adventure. We embarked on a horseback riding journey as strangers, and with each step of our horses, we forged bonds that will forever unite us through the memories we have created.
As always, our journey has been filled with laughter, discoveries, and a genuine sense of camaraderie, where each participating rider has brought something unique, contributing to an experience that transcends the places we have visited. We embraced Mexican equestrian culture and a part of its history, faced challenges, and discovered historically valuable paths.
