Your host at the Olepangi Farm is Elizabeth Loker and her wonderful team. Elizabeth is from the USA and has made Kenya and Olepangi her home for over 20 years. A wonderful warm host you will feel like you are visiting a special friend.

Olepangi is a 120 Acre farm close to the foot of Mt Kenya, blessed with views, a river and some spectacular neighbouring properties. The farm straddles a unique ecozone where most of the finest roses in the world are supplied to the markets of Europe, grown in the wild hinterland of Northern Kenya. Using the farm and it’s beautiful accommodation, pool & stables as your base you can visit and ride on neighbouring safari reserves, go hiking, swim in local hidden pools, visit local communities as well as riding on the farm and even having a wee game of arena polo. There is lots to do and this trip works out fantastic value as a bonus. Ultimately Olepangi is a place to switch off, reset your life and enjoy some wonderful wildlife and Africa’s amazing views and culture, it’s a real treat.

Protected by a low-lying elephant fence, from the farm you can see wildlife across the river on Ole Naishu on most days and includes herds of zebra and impala. Each night you may hear the haunting calls of the hyena as they go out to hunt and once every three weeks, you may also hear lion rutting.

The farm also enjoys stunning, uninterrupted long views north to the Lolldaiga Hills and sublime views south to Mt Kenya. On clear days, you can look west to marvel at the full Aberdare mountain range and the Laikipia plains.

There is so much you can do on the Lolldaiga Ranch Safari and when you arrive your hosts will help you settle into one of the beautiful guest cottages on the farm. We have put together a 7 day action packed mix of riding and non riding activities but we can tailor exactly what you want so just ask us, activities include:

  • Day Rides – enjoy a ride in the surrounding area or a picnic ride running along the Ole Naishu border.
  • Riding Lessons – there is an all-weather arena where you can have lessons, from beginners to advanced, plus polo lessons.
  • Bush polo – they have their own bush polo pitch.
  • Walks around the farm, either on your own or with a guide.
  • Archery & Croquet.
  • A School Visit – The family have close links with their community and the local school.

There are lovely guest cottages at Olepangi Farm where you start and finish your safari, all very comfortable with stunning views. Each of them house gorgeous antique furniture and beautiful objects d’art, which have been collected by the family over the years as they travelled the world.

There are four double and one twin cottages all en suite with antique four-poster beds from the British Raj and fine old Persian carpets. Those who make an early booking may be able to secure the fabulous “Round House”, which has 360 degree views over the ranch, a floating balcony, private lounge and bedroom loft with star-bed and indoor/outdoor private bathroom.

There is also a main house with 3 bedrooms and 2 bedroom villa beside it which is generally booked for groups.

There is a main meeting area, called the “Party House” which is perched on multiple levels and hangs over the Ngishishi River with stunning views to the hills in the north. It houses the dining room, bar and lounge with a large stone fireplace.

Just completed during the 2020 lockdown is stunning infinity pool!

The food at Olepangi Farm Safari is delicious – the chefs are wonderful and make full use of the organic garden on site.

Together the chefs and host’s main aim is to create delicious and interesting menus using local, fresh produce. There is a mix of Western and African dishes including dishes like Sakuma Wiki, a traditional Maize flour and spinach food, eaten across East Africa.

Guests Olepangi Farm are also encouraged to join the staff in the kitchen to swap recipes and see what he creates day to day – this can be a really fun activity!

We have travelled the world testing a huge variety of horse riding holidays to make sure we offer you, our client, the best horse riding holiday experience possible.

Our horse riding holidays are thoroughly researched – we consider all the elements that go towards making our horse riding holidays collection the best in the world. We check the quality of the horses, if they are fit for the job, well produced and looked after. We make sure the riding terrain is good going, the countryside is interesting and, for example, on Classic Dressage horse riding holidays, the arenas are in good condition. We make sure the accommodation, whether it’s a five star hotel, a farmhouse or camping, is clean and comfortable, and offers a great night’s sleep. The food is all important too – we take the time to make sure we tell you if it’s cordon bleu, home cooked, or regional and locally sourced – above all it has to be delicious, plentiful and nourishing. Last but not least, we choose the horse riding holidays that have the best hosts, who are friendly, warm and welcoming.

It’s only when all these elements come together that we add a horse riding holiday into our hand-picked collection of horse riding holidays.

Horse Riding Holidays at on the Lolldaiga Ranch Safari are part of the Zara’s Planet Horse Riding Holidays Kenya collection.
