Getting There
International flight to Johannesburg.

Transfer
1. South Africa to Eswatini
There are numerous scheduled road shuttle services from either Sandton or Tambo International Airport in
Johannesburg to Ezulwini, Eswatini. Apart from Self-drive, this is currently the recommended travel mode to Eswatini
due to time and cost involved in flying – and Eswatini’s KM3 Airport is over 1hr away from Mlilwane.
Rates may vary between shuttle services, but the average rate is: Return £60 pp, One Way £32 pp

2. Inter Park (Mlilwane to KaMsholo)
Chubeka Trails charters a private transfer between Mlilwane and KaMsholo. These charters are offered at fixed prices,
and shared across the number of riders in a given group. We have two rates for these transfers, linked to group size:

1 – 4 guests £210
5 – 8 guests £315

Don’t forget our Horse Riding Holidays GUARANTEE. You won’t find any of our Horse Riding Holidays in Eswatini at a lower price through any other source… and if you do we will refund the difference

SUMMARY OF THE TRIP top

We are thrilled to offer our first destination in Eswatini with Chubeka Trails on the Milwane Wildlife Sanctuary. Milwane is situated in the picturesque Ezulwini Valley (Valley of Heaven), flanked by dramatic backdrop of mountains and the huge Usuthu Forest stetchinng into the distance. Chubeka Trails explores on horseback the northern section of the 4560 hectare park, as far as Luphohlo Peak.

Mlilwane is a thin sliver of land, at most 4km wide, thus unable to support large herds of game. However, between the grasslands, dams, mountain and forests, there are a number of animal species to be seen including crocodile, zebra, blue wildebeest, kudu, nyala, impala, blesbuck, reedbuck, warthog, grey duiker and at least 3 species of mongoose. Seldom seen, but present in the sanctuary are the ever-elusive leopard and a variety of smaller mammals like bushbaby, aardvark, genet, porcupine, honey badger and civet.
The Mlilwane Hill has been fenced off for the propagation of locally rare and threatened species. Slow movement along trails and roads provide sightings of waterbuck, steenbok, red hartebeest, red and blue duiker, klipspringer, oribi and suni. Reptiles are well represented in crocodiles, monitor lizards, skinks and the southern tree agama, with a good selection of snakes. Amphibians let their presence be known near the water sources just prior rain – painted reed frog, caco’s, platanna, puddle and stream frogs and at least 4 species of toad.

You will also have the opportunity to experience KaMsholo, a wildlife rich 700 hectare reserve dominated by the Umbrella Acacia with a wide range of species included giraffe, reedback, waterbuck and ostrich.

The Chubeka Trails motto is “Rough a little, remember it forever”, guests are encouraged to live the experience to the full by taking part grooming, feeding, saddling up and helping prepare food on overnight camp outs.

We have travelled the world testing a huge variety of horse riding holidays to make sure we offer you, our client, the best horse riding holiday experience possible.

Our horse riding holidays are thoroughly researched – we consider all the elements that go towards making our horse riding holidays collection the best in the world. We check the quality of the horses, if they are fit for the job, well produced and looked after. We make sure the riding terrain is good going, the countryside is interesting and, for example, on Classic Dressage horse riding holidays, the arenas are in good condition. We make sure the accommodation, whether it’s a five star hotel, a farmhouse or camping, is clean and comfortable, and offers a great night’s sleep. The food is all important too – we take the time to make sure we tell you if it’s cordon bleu, home cooked, or regional and locally sourced – above all it has to be delicious, plentiful and nourishing. Last but not least, we choose the horse riding holidays that have the best hosts, who are friendly, warm and welcoming.

It’s only when all these elements come together that we add a horse riding holiday into our hand-picked collection of horse riding holidays.
