This is what Claire, our test rider said:
The riding country is excellent – open grass meadowland, forest tracks, and mountain paths. The scenery is genuinely breathtaking – with views of volcanoes, verdant green forests and lakes of the bluest water.
I was exceptionally well looked after, from as soon as Santi picked me up from the bus station until he left me off to start the next part of my trip. Both he and Isabelle take such pride in running the lodge, and can’t do enough to ensure that everyone is happy, well fed and enjoying themselves. It may be a bit of a journey to this wonderful place, but the remoteness and wildness of the landscape is part of the reason why it is so special.
Horses – They have a large herd of horses, these are a mix of stocky Criollos, cross breeds & some finer leggier types.
Level of Riding & Pace – Good Novice to Advanced. The riding isn’t fast or adventurous here but as it is remote it is important people can ride confidently to be safe. The pace consists of a lot of walking interspersed with some canters, generally they don’t trot here. Riding times can be tailored but many people ride out for around 5 hours a day.
Tack – Traditional Argentinian saddles are used. You should note these tend to feel comfortable but don’t have a lot of support for your legs, hence a good independent seat is required.
Weight Restriction – 120kg / 266lbs / 19stone.
Group Size – Maximum 12
The Lodge, is a big chalet style house located at the heart of the ranch, set on top of a hill providing a breathtaking view of the entire valley and surrounding area. This traditional family house is made of native oak wood and stone, typical of the region. It can accommodate up to 12 people in 8 bedrooms and 5 shared bathrooms. Individual travellers & couples will be allocated rooms with ensuite bathrooms. A large communal living room with a fireplace, dining room, and a large playroom for the kids – including a ping pong table – means there is plenty of room to roam around during downtime.
Food – The food is wonderful, all homemade and cooked to order. The usual day consists of four meals; breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.
A typical breakfast includes eggs, bacon or ham cooked to order. There is always fruit, yogurt, ham, cheese, good coffee and orange juice too.
Lunch could be a picnic with nibbles and drinks offered as you dismount your horse followed by a beef & vegetable stew with salad, fruit salad & home made cakes for desert. Or you might ride to a lake beach and have a BBQ; great steak and baked potatoes are typical. Lunch is always washed down with wine if you wish.
Afternoon tea is always on option with canapes, snacks, cakes on offer.
Dinner is a big affaire and you can expect delicious home cooking. A typical menu would be carrot and ginger soup to start, then home made fresh pasta with sauces and a couple of deserts to choose from. There is always a selection of carefully chosen Argentinian wine offered with dinner of course!
Our horse riding holidays are thoroughly researched – we consider all the elements that go towards making our horse riding holidays collection the best in the world. We check the quality of the horses, if they are fit for the job, well produced and looked after. We make sure the riding terrain is good going, the countryside is interesting and, for example, on Classic Dressage horse riding holidays, the arenas are in good condition. We make sure the accommodation, whether it’s a five star hotel, a farmhouse or camping, is clean and comfortable, and offers a great night’s sleep. The food is all important too – we take the time to make sure we tell you if it’s cordon bleu, home cooked, or regional and locally sourced – above all it has to be delicious, plentiful and nourishing. Last but not least, we choose the horse riding holidays that have the best hosts, who are friendly, warm and welcoming.
