Siobhan English on Macatoo Safari, Botswana

On the day of our close encounter, we acknowledged the patience needed to train horses to have this level of trust; they all stood motionless as we gazed in amazement. Even when the elephant moved in our direction, the horses remained calm.

Back at our camp, we relived the day's adventures over a smashing lunch, our time in the saddle leaving us hungry for seconds. It's in the middle of nowhere, but you really know you are somewhere very, very special.

Ciara features Kalahari Camp, Botswana

We experience the wonders of the beautiful salt pans of the Makgadigadi. In the winter the pans are just one salt crust the size of Switzerland, where nothing lives and nothing grows. There's no water, no food, no animals. In summer it explodes with a billion shrimp - daily snacks for over a million flamingos and home to mammoth herds of zebra and widlebeest.

Each day is a new adventure. we visit Livingstone's famous Baobab tree and see his name carved on its bark before lunching under a cool acacia tree. After a nap and tea, we move in gliding across the pans for a night under the stars with supper cooked for us by CK's marvellous staff.

Heck the pans are the most marvellous place to wake up! As the sun rises and the light fractures this desolate Doctor Who scape just gets more beguiling. It blows my mind, slowly, then again and again and again.

Rosemary on The Desert Raid, Namibia

Brilliant! Every moment to be treasured and remembered. Truly the best holiday I have ever had! Brave, honest 'Metallic', long canters, superb food and plenty of laughs with good company. What could be better.

Cian on Benguerra Lodge, Mozambique

Benguerra Lodge is true barefoot luxury, an idyllic getaway with its white sands and turquoise waters, where we were able to chill out and relax, dive, swim with the horses - just perfect!

Roz Hughes on Retzlaff Safari, Mozambique

I have been lucky enough to have been on many riding holidays around the world but none quite as memorable as staying with Retzlaff Horse Safaris. I don't often say this as there are so many new places to visit but I will return.

Kevin & Cindy on Gordie’s Masai Mara, Kenya

Gordie's horses like to canter almost at a gallop pace and they were fantastic. Love a horse you have to hold back. Only got semi telling off for "breaking the line". We saw 250 bazillion animals and even got chased by a lioness!!!

Ciara Higgins on Wait a Little Big 5 Safari, SA

The horses were amazing. I rode four different horses and Dave rode 3. We were definitely matched to suitable horses and really enjoyed our mounts. They started out each day with a lovely long walk and arrived home up to 4 hours later with the same lovely strides they began with! The terrain was great. Plenty of long sporty canters, exploring through dense bush and cantering along dry river beds.

The accommodation was beautiful. All we imagined and so much more! It was so exciting being so close to nature even when we were sleeping! With lovely little touches like the electric blankets on for us on our first night which was really cold!!Also having a laundry service was brilliant. The food was outstanding! Such a variety of beautiful home cooked meals, good job we did so much riding so we didn’t feel one bit guilty enjoying it all!

Philip and Gertie were so warm and welcoming, and Clare, Rusty and the girls were such a nice group. It literally felt like a home away from home!

And finally thank you for all your help leading up to our trip. All the very prompt email returns with my random questions were so helpful so thanks so much again. We really had the trip of a life-time, it was everything we had hoped for and much much more!

Karen Watson on Ants Safari Collection, South Africa

In your last email you said that if we would enjoyed Steenberg then we would be bowled over with Ant's and you were absolutely right. The horse riding aspect, staff, accommodation, animals, food and general ambience were simply stunning and unforgettable for us.

We were made to feel so special in both venues but particularly at Ant's we felt they made every effort to personalise our holiday. We would gladly recommend this trip to anyone visiting SA and certainly recommend your company as the organisation was flawless.

Cian O’Connor on Ants Safari Collection, South Africa

There is a uniqueness to going on a safari on horseback that travelling in a Land Rover can never give you. Here you are at one with the wildlife, with nothing separating you from the huge variety of game that trots or canters alongside you or sometimes just regard you with a baleful eye from the bush - you are never sure if they see you as being one of them or whether they might want to eat you!

Paul Ronan on Ride & Walk Safaris

The only way I can describe the trip is that it exceeded my expectations and I think I speak for all of the rest of the group. Your choice of camps and people was spot on. As you had said a completely different experience with different terrain, Carmen's horses were top class, she runs it like a military operation.

Our guide was Clinton Edwards who wished to be remembered to you. We got to see a great cross section of game, elephant, hippo, giraffe etc. unfortunately the elusive lion while he hung around quite close to the camp and made a lot of noise at night, failed to show. Sam & Ginny were fantastic. The family connection certainly helped. Once again the food, staff, wine etc. were to the highest standard. The Botswana people have a lovely happy disposition.

After that experience we'll have to look for something to top it which is going to be very hard!
