Horse Riding Holidays Peru

Peru is a wonderful country, full of Inca magic such as the Lost City of Machu Picchu, beautiful scenery around Lake Titicaca and other areas, and welcoming and friendly indigenous tribes, who preserve age-old customs and dress even in today’s modern world.

These ingredients make it one of the most visited countries in Latin America, particularly with hiking enthusiasts and other intrepid adventurers, who tackle the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu by foot. Close by however is another brilliant way to enjoy what this wonderful country has to offer, as our horse riding holidays in Peru will take you through the highlights of the entire Sacred Valley.

The historic heartland of the Inca Empire is just 15km north (as the condor flies) of Cuzco, the main city in the area. The Valley is dotted with historic colonial towns and rural villages, where attractions include traditional markets and imposing Inca citadels, as well as meandering trails through the rugged countryside. Exploring those trails from the saddle on a horse riding holiday in Peru will take you far from the tourist crowds and allow you to experience places that most visitors never see, for a truly memorable Peruvian experience.

Our comprehensive itinerary also brings you the more populated spots, though. You’ll ride on one day to the outskirts of Cuzco, before being transferred into the city for two hotel nights and a free day in between to explore at your own pace. Three more days in the saddle then follow, before the tour finishes in spectacular style with a visit to Machu Picchu itself, via one of the most breath-taking train journeys in the world.

You’ll need to be fit, and patient, if you plan to undertake a horse riding holiday in Peru, as the altitudes involved are challenging to humans and horses alike. The first few days of our itinerary are not particularly strenuous, to give you time to acclimatise, before activity moves up a notch over the following days. The going can still be tough but common sense and following the advice of our expert guides will see you through safely, and having been through the same ourselves, both Zara and I can personally guarantee that the overall experience is definitely worth whatever hardship you might feel at first!

Overall, a horse riding holiday in Peru through the incredible Sacred Valley there is an experience that will stay you a lifetime. We loved it there, and we know you’ll love it too.
